About

What labourlaws.co.uk is, who it is for, and what it will not do.

labourlaws.co.uk explains UK employment rights in plain English: what the law says, what it means in practice, and where to check it yourself.

What this site is

Most people meet employment law at a bad moment: a dismissal letter, a pay slip that does not add up, a contract change they did not ask for. The official sources are accurate but dense, and much of what ranks in search is padded or out of date.

This site aims to be the useful middle: guides organised into nine topic hubs, written in everyday language, with worked examples wherever money or time is involved.

What you will find

  • Dated guides that say what is in force now and what is scheduled
  • Links to legislation, GOV.UK, Acas and nidirect
  • Notes where Scotland and Northern Ireland differ

What you will not find

  • Legal advice about your particular case
  • Invented case studies, testimonials or statistics
  • Claims of qualifications we do not hold

Who is behind it

labourlaws.co.uk is an independent publication. It is not a law firm, it is not connected to any political party, and it is not affiliated with the government, Acas or any trade union. We do not present any article as the work of a named solicitor unless that is true and stated on the page.

The site is edited by Alin Ciocan, who also edits BareTread.com. He is not a solicitor and does not give legal advice. Write to him at [email protected] with corrections, press and data requests; see the contact page for what we can and cannot help with.

Need help now?

If something is happening at work today, these free services can help: Acas (helpline 0300 123 1100), Citizens Advice, and in Northern Ireland the nidirect and Labour Relations Agency services. Time limits for tribunal claims are short, so ask early.
