Only if you can afford it. Your rights stay free.
Every guide, deadline, calculator and route to free help on this site is free to read and always will be. Nothing on this page asks you for money yet.
Why we say “only if you can afford it”
Most of the people we write for earn little and are short of time. Paying for information about your own rights would be one more cost on top of a bad week. So the guides stay free, and support is something you can give if you have spare money, not something you must give to read.
Support from readers is the funding we want most, because it comes with no strings. We also accept that the site may one day be funded in other ways. The next section says where the line is.
What we will not take money for
- No claims farming and no paid referrals to solicitors. We will not be paid to pass you to a firm.
- No payday loan adverts and no employer recruitment adverts. They target people in a squeeze, or they sell the employer’s side.
- No paywall on rights. Your rights, your deadlines, our calculators and the routes to free help stay free for everyone.
- No say over what we write. Nobody who funds this site gets to approve, change or block a guide. That includes unions, charities and grant funders.
If anything on the site is ever sponsored, it will be labelled as such, with the name of who paid. Our editorial standards explain how we choose sources, date our guides and correct mistakes, and the about page says who runs the site.
Ways to help that cost nothing
- Share a guide. Send the one that fits to a colleague, a friend or a group chat. Most people find out about a right after it has been broken.
- Tell us when we are wrong. If a guide has an error or is out of date, write to us through the contact page. We correct the text and update the review date.
- Join a union. It is the most practical way to enforce your rights at work. The TUC’s union finder shows which union covers your job. We take no payment for sending you to a union.
