Holiday entitlement calculator

5.6 weeks’ statutory leave, 28-day cap; 12.07% accrual for leave years from 1 April 2024 · GOV.UK holiday entitlement

How it works

Almost every worker in the UK is entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year. For someone working five days a week that is 28 days; it never falls below 5.6 times your working week, but statute caps it at 28 days. A six-day week still gives 28, not 33.6.

Part-time workers get the same 5.6 weeks, pro rata: three days a week means 16.8 days, two days means 11.2. Your employer can include bank holidays inside that allowance if the contract says so.

If you start or leave part-way through the leave year, entitlement accrues by twelfths of the year, the same method the GOV.UK calculator uses. A starter’s entitlement is rounded up to the nearest half day; a leaver’s is the exact fraction. Tell the calculator which applies and it adjusts the rounding.

Irregular-hours and part-year workers work differently. For leave years starting on or after 1 April 2024 they accrue 12.07% of the hours they actually work in each pay period. That figure equals 5.6 weeks out of the 46.4 weeks actually worked in a year. The calculator applies that accrual to whatever hours you enter.
